Our Process

Just a little info about ‘how’ we do the wine and the ‘time’ involved

Our grapes were planted in 2004 by 13 family members in 3 days.  It takes four years of pruning, fertilizing before the grapes are ready to be made into wine.  The wine changes each year because the grapes get more mature.  They do not get replanted unless they die.

We start pruning in late February, early March and continue through Spring and Summer.  Harvest is usually in mid to late August, depending on the Brix (sugar count) and acid in the grapes.  We detect this by gathering grapes randomly throughout the vineyard, then crushing them by hand and testing the juice.  The grapes are picked when the winemaker is satisfied they are ready.  We then go on a ‘marathon’ work-a-thon until all grapes are picked, crushed, pressed and in the tanks being tended to by the winemaker.  We do not stop until we are done.

The year attached to the wines, vintage year, means the year the grapes were picked.

YOU are invited to come out to participate as a volunteer to work, or to enjoy wine on the porch and watch.  Just call for our schedule  402-328-3494.

One couple came out last year to help pick for their ‘date’ night.  Much fun was had by all.
